Dr. Soni Sharma

Assistant Dean’s Message

In todays interconnected and rapidly changing world, Sharda University Agra strongly advocates the study of various disciplines, including Literature, Psychology, Economics, and Political Science, which stand as pillars of human understanding. They are not isolated fields but deeply interwoven lenses through which we can explore what it means to be human — our thoughts, societies, values, and aspirations.

Literature invites us to dwell in language, in stories, poems, and plays that reveal the complexity of human experience. It teaches empathy, imagination, and the ability to see the world through multiple perspectives. Through literature, we learn not just what was thought or felt in other times or places, but how to express the inexpressible, to question norms, and to imagine new worlds.

Psychology opens the door to the inner life of individuals. It enables us to understand cognition, emotion, motivation, identity, and behaviour. In studying psychology, we gain insight into why people act the way they do — including ourselves — and acquire tools to foster mental well‐being, interpersonal understanding, and healthier communities.

Economics provides a framework for understanding how scarce resources are produced, allocated, and consumed. It shows us the trade‐offs societies make, the incentives that shape behaviour, and the policies that can uplift the many or burden the few. Economics allows us to think critically about growth, equity, sustainability, and how we might build a more just economy.

Political Science concerns power, governance, and institutions. It investigates how decisions are made — by whom, under what constraints, and with what consequences. It helps us understand democracy, rights, conflict, justice, and public policy. In times of crisis and change, political science reminds us of the importance of being informed, ethically engaged, and participatory citizens.

Together, these four disciplines do more than fill academic requirements. They sharpen critical thinking, nurture moral imagination, enable us to interpret and influence the world around us. They prepare students not only for careers but for citizenship — for a life committed to understanding, justice, and creative transformation. As Dean, I encourage each one of you to engage deeply with these disciplines: read widely, question assumptions, connect ideas across fields. And let us commit as an academic community to build scholarship that enriches human life, strengthens societies, and inspires hope in the promise of a more thoughtful, just, and humane world.

Best Wishes!

Assistant Dean, School of Humanities
