Joins UP historic 35 crore plantation campaign for a greener tomorrow

Sharda University Agra successfully organized Vriksharopan Mahayagya–2026 under the nationwide campaign "Ek Vriksh Maa Ke Naam", aligning with the Government of Uttar Pradesh's historic mission of planting 35 crore saplingsacross the state. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of eminent dignitaries, university officials, faculty members, students and environmental enthusiasts, reaffirming the collective commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development. The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Shailendra Singh, Dean, Department of Student Welfare (DSW). 

The ceremony was graced by Dr. Hariom (IAS), Principal Secretary, Vocational Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest, along with Shri Manish Bansal (IAS), District Magistrate, Agra, Smt. Pratibha Singh (IAS), Chief Development Officer, Agra, Shri Rajesh (IFS), Divisional Forest Officer, Chambal, Shri Santosh Kumar Vaishya (IAS), Municipal Commissioner, Agra, and Shri Shailendra Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Industries, Agra. They were welcomed by the university leadership and participated in the plantation drive with students and faculty members. 

Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor Shri Y. K. Gupta Ji emphasized that environmental conservation must become a collective social responsibility. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of sustainability by nurturing every sapling planted today, stating that education and environmental stewardship must go hand in hand for nation-building. His address inspired the youth to actively contribute towards creating a greener and healthier India. 

Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Parma Nand Ji highlighted that universities play a vital role in shaping environmentally conscious citizens. He urged students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and described the "Ek Vriksh Maa Ke Naam" campaign as a meaningful tribute to motherhood and nature, inspiring every individual to protect the environment for future generations. 
Chief Guest Dr. Hariom (IAS) applauded the Uttar Pradesh Government's visionary initiative of planting 35 crore saplings and called upon educational institutions to lead the environmental movement through awareness, participation and long-term conservation. He stressed that planting a tree is meaningful only when it is protected and nurtured until it grows into a life-giving tree, encouraging every student to take personal responsibility for preserving nature. 

District Magistrate Agra, Shri Manish Bansal (IAS) appreciated the active participation of Sharda University Agra in the state-wide plantation campaign and urged students to become environmental ambassadors by adopting sustainable lifestyles and ensuring the survival of every planted sapling. He remarked that public participation is the key to achieving a greener and environmentally resilient Uttar Pradesh. 
Adding cultural grandeur to the occasion, the audience witnessed a mesmerizing traditional Braj cultural dance performance by Shri Manoj Ji and his troupe from Vrindavan, beautifully showcasing the rich heritage, devotion and folk traditions of Braj. The vibrant presentation captivated the audience and reflected the harmonious relationship between Indian culture and nature. 

The programme concluded with a large-scale plantation drive across the university campus, where dignitaries, faculty members and students jointly planted saplings and pledged to protect them. The event reinforced Sharda University Agra's commitment to environmental sustainability and its active contribution towards realizing the vision of a greener, cleaner and environmentally conscious Uttar Pradesh.
